Located in Santos (in the state of São Paulo), Vale Fertilizantes’s Marine Terminal is one of the world’s largest sulphur and fertilizer unloading terminals, which allows for rapid unloading of inputs and products. It is capable of handling 2.3 million tonnes a year of ammonia and bulk solids.

Its unloader enables it to receive 1,200 tonnes/hour of bulk solids. Manufactured in Germany and assembled at the terminal, the equipment is the only one of its kind in South America.

The TUF is capable of unloading 12,000 tonnes/day of sulphur and 10,000 tonnes/day of fertilizer; it also unloads ammonia directly to a tank capable of receiving 20,000 tonnes at a negative temperature of 33° C.

With its 177m-length and 10,36m-depth pier, this terminal is equipped to receive ships of up to 67,000 tonnes. It also has a mixed gauge railroad branch, which connects the terminal to the external railroad network, allowing direct access to the other units and to the company’s customers. The facility has a wagon unloading system – a network of conveyor belts that takes the product from the unloader to the funnels, through which it is loaded into the train.

At the terminal, environmental care is a perennial concern as in any of the company’s other units. The sulphur yard, for example, has a special system that releases a liquid resin over the cargo. In contact with the sulphur, this resin forms a protective film, preventing the dispersal of particles into the atmosphere. The operation is totally automated and complies with the most strict safety norms.

The Terminal’s entire logistics programming is prepared by Vale Fertilizantes’s Marine Terminal. For further information, please call +55 (13) 3369 9318.
